RWANDA TRAVEL GUIDE
How to reach Rwanda:
Rwanda International Airport is in Kigali, 10 km from the city centre. Rwanda Air connects directly with the airports of the neighboring countries, like Entebbe and Nairobi, but also Johannesburg and Dubai.
If you are coming from Europe, many international airlines are travelling to Kigali mainly KLM Royal Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines and Kenya Airways.

 Entry visa
Entry tourist visa is issued directly at the exit at Kigali airport to all citizens showing a valid passport for more than six months from the expiring date and at the cost of 60 USD or 60 Euros. French citizens must apply in advance through on line systems to obtain visa.
For short periods of time and tourist visas the following citizens do not require visa fees: USA, UK, Germany, Sweden, Canada, Hong Kong, Burundi, Uganda, Congo DRC, Kenya, Mauritius, South Africa, and Tanzania.

 Local currency and credit cards
In Rwanda you will need local currency, the Rwanda Franc (Rfr), for any expenditure. You can exchange US Dollars or Euros or UK Sterling at the forex bureau mainly in Kigali town for the best exchange rate.
Credit cards and visa cards facilities are still not well developed. Payments are made mainly in cash and you can withdraw a limited amount of money per day using your card from the ATM machine. Few banks, including Barclays and Standard Chartered Bank accept visa cards, while master card is not recommended at all.
Traveler’s cheques are difficult to exchange and encounter high banking fees.

Roads
Roads in Rwanda are well developed all around the country. You find mostly tarmac roads, except the road connecting Cyangugu with Gisenyi along Lake Kivu, which is murram.

 Luggage
Travelling through Rwanda requires the use of a 4x4 drive car and it is always recommended to travel using light luggage not rigid, which can be better stored into the vehicle.

 Climatic conditions
Rwanda lies at an altitude of 1500 to 2500 m on the average. It is a country of green hills and mountains; therefore the standard temperature is not very high. There are two annual rainy seasons: between October and December and between March and May. However, tourism in Rwanda is advisable at any time.

Clothes
Rwanda enjoys medium warm temperatures; however it can be humid and cold at night. It is advisable to wear light clothes during the day, like trousers for men and long skirts or trousers for women.
